RooM Technical Guides

Any images that you submit to the marketplace must meet our basic technical standards regarding image resolution and image quality. These are industry standards, created to make sure images can be purchased for as many different uses as possible and to reassure clients that they can use images they select in the way they want to.

All images need to be uploaded as JPEGs

Why does size matter?

Megapixel size is the most important factor; it gives the best indication of how large an image is.

From a point of view of salability clients will look not only at the content of an image, but if the size fits the requirements of their usage. If your image doesn’t, they will look for one that will.

The larger the image, the more ways it can be used, and for more prominent types of usage.

What is important to understand is that the needs of each client will vary. Some clients just want images for web usage, in which case small file sizes will do whilst other will look for the largest file possible for large projects like billboards or displays. Here is a list of some usages to consider:

  • Web pages – small banners, full page ads to full screen web images
  • Electronic or digital use
  • Stationary
  • Print use – postcards to greeting cards to magazines and newspapers
  • Large projects – posters, prints, billboards and displays
3MPminimum

During content review, our cut off point for the minimum image size is usually 3MP. We do, at our discretion, sometimes consider smaller file sizes, but as a rule you are much more likely to get your content accepted by sticking to the minimum of 3MPs per file. Images below this will not usually be accepted for sale. Smaller images have limited salability.

Borders

Adding borders to images is popular on Instagram and whilst the effect might be aesthetically pleasing to you, for clients it is unnecessary and will render your image potentially unusable, so it may be best to avoid them all together.

Clients like to make the decision as to how an image will appear in their campaign, so please only upload images without borders. We want your images to get the best possible reaction from our clients, so images submitted with borders will more than likely be rejected.
